The category for this really ought to be, "Drugs". I'm quite surprised that there isn't one.

 No Babysitter

Hey, who’s watching the baby?
I saw her skipping down route 5 this morn
In her spanking Buster Browns,
Dimples raging in a chocolate-painted smile
Smug in her daring escape...
While Daddy mowed the lawn.

Hey, who’s watching the baby?
I saw her tearing down route 5 last night
In Daddy’s sleek little sports car,
Dimples raging in a blush-tinged smile
Smug in her illicit freedom...
While Grandpa snored over the paper.

Hey, who’s watching the baby?
I saw her swinging on a pole at the Route Five
In her blistering G-string,
Dimples raging in a lust-painted smile
Smug in her primitive allure...
While sugar daddies wrote the rent checks.

Hey, who’s watching the baby?
I saw her bathed in sirens on route 5
In a bloody old dress,
Dimples raging in a crack-frosted smile
Smug in her secret pleasures...
While Momma clutched at her heart.

This made me cry Mel. This is very heartfelt and dramatizes what drugs can do to the mind, and the consequences that can and will occur. Thank you so much for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your den sister, Barbie

Heartfelt poem that seems to be so true of this day and time truly touched my very soul

This is a great poem, a keeper. This is so true of modern society especially-the part about who's watching the kids made me think of when i worked in a bookstore and people have this false sense of security in public places and do not watch their kids and then wonder how things happen- this shows what happens when that carries on throughout their lives. Excellent.

Missy, this poem is stunning in its irony and accuracy. So good to see you posting again :)

No holds barred, tell it like it is, the sad reality...
This one should be read to parents as soon as they are ready to take their children home from the maternity ward. Well done Melissa and good to see you posting again.

Raw and powerful; these verses reflect a very sad side of modern society. The theme you express is much the same as one that I have tried to convey in a poem I have posted here at AD. It is titled, "Devil's Bride." Thank you for sharing this timely write, Melissa. Love and best wishes to you,

Regis
