A very special person to me is spending a year in jail. These words describe how he feels somedays.

The prison gates won't open up for me

This ain't how I want my life to be

Spending my days staring at cold grey walls

Wondering if this is all

Is this all I have left anymore

Thoughts and dreams of what waits outside this door

24 and wasting my life away

Sitting here taking it day by day

Dreaming of my to boys

Daddy little pride and joys

Dreaming of a loved one left behind

Knowing she's going out of her mind

Hoping for the day the gate opens and I go free

Praying she'll be waiting for me

These cold grey ceils

Remind you of hell

A lonely place to be

When your in this hell like me

I know I must spend my time

But it's driving me out of my mind

The outside world keeps turning

And to be in her arms I'm yearning

But these prison gates won't set me free

This ain't the way I wanted my life to be

I was checking out your bio, and saw this poem. With my step-grandmother in prison for the second time, this one caught my eye. You've written a good poem that seems to catch the heartfelt feelings of the one behind bars. How sad for them to throw good sense to the winds and have to lose a year of living a free and productive life. They need our prayers, that God will redeem the time and reach them where they are.
