My version of The Lighthouse's Tale inspired by the song and lyrics by the group Nickel Creek. Please listen to the song. My version of Lighthouse is also inspired from the Feds giving away lighthouses for free if a person has a million dollars for the upkeep.

Lighthouse

Only the lighthouse
knows her original
beauty.

She is reclusive and
concealed within.

Her spirit carves
soapstone lamps
with grooves in
the edge to hold
a sawtooth piece
of moss wick
floating on melted
whale blubber.

She had no other
hope for a life
after St. Elmo's
fire at sea buried
her lover in a
watery grave.

On the fourteenth
year anniversary of
her lover's death at
sea, she decided it
was time to meet
her death to join
her lover.

She found the right
shade of blue dress
to match the sea,
with white lace around
the hem to match the
sea spume.

With the incoming fog,
and the soapstone shards
swept up in a pile,
from the far top
of the lighthouse, she
jumped into the sea and
met her lover in a watery
grave.

Many years later, her voice
calls out from the lighthouse
that only her lover can hear.

They are giving away her
lighthouse for free, but
the owner must provide
one million dollars for
upkeep of the lighthouse.

Is your muse worth a
million to you?

The Lighthouse's Tale song and lyrics by Nickel Creek

I am a lighthouse, worn by the weather and the waves.
I keep my lamp lit, to warn the sailors on their way.

I'll tell a story, paint you a picture from my past.
I was so happy, but joy in this life seldom lasts.

I had a keeper, he helped me warn the ships at sea.
We had grown closer, 'till his joy meant everything to me.

And he was to marry, a girl who shone with beauty and light.
And they loved each other, and with me watched the sunsets into night.

[Chorus:]
And the waves crashing around me, the sand slips out to sea.
And the winds that blow remind me, of what has been, and what can never be.

She'd had to leave us, my keeper he prayed for a safe return.
But when the night came, the weather to a raging storm had turned.

He watched her ship fight, but in vain against the wild and terrible wave.
In me so helpless, as dashed against the rock she met her end.

[Chorus]

Then on the next day, my keeper found her washed up on the SHORE.
He kissed her cold face, that they'd be together soon he'd swore.

I saw him crying, watched as he buried her in the sand.
And then he climbed my tower, and off of the edge of me he ran.

[Chorus]

I am a lighthouse, worn by the weather and the waves.
And though I am empty, I still warn the sailors on their way.

This is beautiful, Sage. I've always loved lighthouses, views of lighthouses, pictures of lightouses. I know many people do. Well, now that I glance at the other reviews it seems I'm simply an echo. :-) Wonderful job. ~~Nordette

A superb tribute to a threatened "structure," Sage. Here, the government simply closes them and allows them to go to ruin. There is a strong protest about this from people who use the sea (and the lighthouses). Thank you for sharing your gifts, Sage. Love and peace to you.

As you are too I see,
We have many here in New Jersey,
Most owned by the state and to enter is not free...

Beautiful pic and a great place for me to want to live, right on the edge of the world as it were...Ed & Rufuz

I absolutely love lighthouses ... they hold so much significance to both the physical and the spiritual. Both romantic and practical. Wish I had a million dollars, or more, as I believe each and every one is worth saving. Your poem is gorgeous!

Love & Light,
Joseph

Sage, a beautiful, tormented tale of love, and the lighthouse that keeps its secret! I love lighthouses, and recently travelled 4-1/2 hours to take photos of one - a working one yet! Thank you for your caring words.
