A recent trip to Budapest contained a very special stroll in a way that is difficult for me to articulate…

A stream of syllables,

Meandering past,

Murmurs of conversations,

Not understood but felt.

The feel of a place,

New but part recognised.

Unexplored, but

In some way – familiar.

A split city,

As a river flows through it,

Parting old from new.

Separating but not quite dividing

The two personalities.

There is age in the air

Faintly musty

Just beyond

The reach of the palate

A peacefulness

No helter-skelter

Feel of the Big Smoke.

Floating in the flow of it

Enraptured by this place

In the lost footing of the mind

Minus auditory cues.

Churches reach up to God

With tear shaped towers

Mosaiced in tiles

Dollops to the Divine.

A pattern catches

Calling rueful smiles

A fleur-de-lys

Of course…

The silent cloister

An oasis of calm

The delicacy of surrogate enjoyment

For an absent friend.

Do the hairs on his neck

Communicate this connection?

What else moves in the threads tonight

Is it lost in the noise?

A caress through time and space

For the joy of giving it

This is new

This is all new.

The world of mind beckons

And back I go

But I know

That I am richer than I was before.

Yes, a magical city blending times and reflected beauties upon the river... a deeply stirring vision and impression, not easy to express. But you have done it masterfully, and I for one believe it when you say that you feel richer than before. Greetings, Poet.
