Crocus
(Dedicated to Suzanne LaBatt)
After
The Long Cold Winter
The First Flower Rises
Through the Melting Ice
Of Yesterday.
The Crocus
First Flower of Spring
First to bring Beauty back
To a cold world.
Not only Beautiful
But Immortal.
One blind man
Tramples her
And she
Rises Again.
One Fool
Cuts her down
And she
Rises Again.
And when storms rage around her
She never breaks
Because she bends.
The First Flower of Spring
First to bring Beauty back
To a cold world
That hardly deserves her.
A true Gift from God
You’ll know Spring is here
And better times are coming
When you see the
Crocus
Rise Again.
