Dedicated to KAI, the Siberian Husky that nobody can keep up with.

RUN WITH ME

Ice-blue eyes

From snow-white fur

Look to me once more

With their eternal cry…

Run with me!

The husky pants and prances

On muscles like steel springs

Eager to be out and away

Yet I hesitate

He howls at me, challenging

You’re the youngest of the pack

You should want to run

And feel the wind on your back

Taste the world on your tongue

Savor scents, sound and sun

Run with me!

I look back into those pleading eyes

Knowing he won’t comprehend

I would say, I bear many chains

While you bear but one

One leads to work and another to woman

And so many more you can’t see

Youngest of the pack I may seem

But labor’s never done

So I’ll open the door to let you run

As the door opens

Autumn winds beckon beyond

And the sun warms the skies

He strains at the leash

And when he looks back and howls

Somehow his strength becomes mine

And I am the youngest of the pack

And I run with him.
