First Day Of Practice
Time to hang up those skates
The winter and ice are all gone .
Time to play ball with your mates
First practice is on
.
Dust off the old ball and bat .
Find those battered old cleats
Try and find that old lucky hat .
Play Ball !! How your heart beats .
The couch bats out some flies
We’re on a mad run .
It’s mine ! Everyone cries .
Yes , such pure Joy , all in good fun .
My turn at the bat
It’ll go over the fence
I’m sure of that .
Loosen up now don’t be tense .
The pitcher winds up
Lets a knuckle ball go
Eye on the ball , I’m not a young pup
But oh how I want a hit so .
Breaks to the right
Off the end of my bat
I hit that ball with all of my might
I hear the coach say “ Well look at that !
The ball soared over the trees
At the edge of left field
Fielder diving down on his knees
Driven to win never to yield .
He’ll never catch that
That ball is long gone
Said coach as he spat
That hit’s in the zone.
Face first in the mud
Glove hand outstretched
We heard a loud thud
What a catch ! We all are impressed !
Ah yes ! Play ball
That wonderful cry
Each year you hear temptation call
Play ball ! How hard can you try ?
