How tough is tough?

I was scared

I couldn’t show it

It was what I’d always feared

Now they all would know it.

I had never had a real fight

Not with a stranger

With my brothers every night

Never any real danger

I was the oldest brother

And so much stronger

Those fights stopped by mother

Never going longer

This time would be different

No adults to stop it

My inability would be apparent

I had never really been hit.

After school I had agreed

Should of not stepped in

The bully a bad breed

The little guy couldn’t win.

I stood up for him

Gave the bully a whack

Such a stupid whim

Now he would fight back.

Schools out. Around back

No bully to be seen

Headed home with his sack

I’m relieved. He was mean.

They all thought I was tough

Thought the bully scared

Maybe he wasn’t rough

From then on I was feared.

How stupid was that ?
