God created Autumn so the earth could drift into the deep sleep of winter without pain.
For she will be bound beneath mounds of frozen Decaying leaves which will be her gain.
Autumn is for dozing. Comfortable days of sun without burning heat
Nights of golden moons and cool breezes that make us feel replete.
It is wondrous, the way He paints such colors into His handicraft, and swirls
Us into winter's chill and gives smoke and fire to Announce its coming in Messengers whirls.
Floating in the air, cobwebs glow silver streaks in the afterbirth of summer's descent
Into the womb of the earth for rest and succor of Days newly spent.
But let her rest. Do not try to awaken her before her time has come
For we cannot change the season's passing, or Ask her to rise for she is numb
To our request, she listens to a different voice
And sings a different song
And maybe, just maybe, this year winter will not Be quite so cold, or quite so long.
