Where Nobody Was

Searching for a quiet place

I wanted a place
Where nobody was,
Nobody there but me.
So I found a table
And so was able
To simply sit and be.
But then I found
That without much sound
People all too near,
Tho' quietly they spoke
With voices that broke
Of someone very dear.
And I wondered if ever,
Though I thought hardly ever
Did anyone speak of me
In joyful tones
With love alone
And I wondered how it would be.
But I needed a moment alone
To find the inner core of me
Something inside,
Opened up wide
And still they could not see.
Then I knew why
And I could not cry
For I learned a new thing
About me
The quiet place I sought
Had already been bought
And dwelled inside of me.
