This is a continuation of Walking Through a Small Town. I want this to become an on-going series. I'd like to see this character develop.
|
I have walked
For years on end.
Through many small towns,
I have been.
Every time I see
Those eyes staring at me;
Every time I see
Those looks of disapproval;
Every time I’m confronted;
Every time I fight;
Win or lose,
I just keep walking through.
I am tired.
Tired of the stares.
Tired of the looks of disapproval.
Tired of the fighting.
Tired of just walking through.
Today I decide,
The next town I see
The next town I enter
I will stop walking
I will make a home.
I will ignore the staring eyes,
I will ignore the looks of disapproval.
This time,
I will not just walk through.
I will make this next town my home.
Down this dusty dirt road I continue.
Kicking the occasional stone along the way.
Knapsack on my back and an empty feeling in my heart.
Off in the distance, I see a small town.
Looks like every other one
I’ve ever seen.
No better no worse.
Off in the distance, in this little town, lies my new home.
