This could be any country.

COUNTRY AIR

'Early one morning, just as the sun was rising,'

My lady loudly snoring in the valley by my side:

Curlers everywhere...

No glory to her hair...

Seven nails highly polished...

Three ragged cracked and bare...

A pimple on her nose?

Was that lint between her toes?

The rest?

God only knows!

But...

I loved her,

As I've loved her,

Always love her!

Later that evening a politician ranted:

His voice was hard and ugly as the venom that he spat!

So men coughed blood and died!

Clergy walked the other side!

Children cried out in their fear

But found no place to hide!

The crime rate’s on the swell!

And the racist's doing well...

All my country gone to hell!

But...

I loved her,

As I've loved her,

Always love her!

This is my country. Could it also describe your feelings for your country?

This is true for any country. We have the beauty walking with the beast. One day we may be able to tame it. And congrats on this piece as one of your inaugaural poems in Authors Den. We all welcome you here, and hope to see more.
