A day that sang of spring on its breezes, and saw the dirty snow in retreat
The tiny shoots of tiger lilies that have pushed through frost hardened soil
A promise of warmer weather ahead, yet the forecast calls for more snow
A tug of war between old man winter and lady spring
Back and forth, evenly matched at times and yet spring is gaining ground
The humans wait in anticipation for the outcome and a new season
The game is still in session, no clear winner yet, but spirits run high
It was a long dark, snowy and icy winter, played to the sound of bitter winds
The trees have had no voice since their leaves blew away, now nubbins await,
Await the warmth to make them burst with green, and learn to rustle their joy
The joy that summer breezes can achieve with their windy kiss
And humans await the time that they can venture outside sleeveless
And relish the hot sun that bathes the skin and warms the spirits.
Those spirits beaten down by shoveling heavy snow, and driving icy roads
Mauled by winds with needle like shards that penetrated heavy coats
And a myriad of lost mittens, so all go out with unmatched pairs on
They prayed for spring, they cursed the cold, they all wanted to move,
Yet a few days of sunshine and warmth almost make that memory go.
All nature awaits, breathing anticipation, praying and hoping for spring
