Red Maple

The last to bloom, the last to die.
Scurrying squirrels in her branches.
Sparrows taking rest
Until the crows gather on the tops.
An occasional seagull from the Chesapeake
Storm driven.
Blue plastic bag from the grocery store.
Mylar balloons
And Cardinals share space.
Children climb
As cats hiss at the birds
And the world laughs at them all.
Just a tree outside my window.
