We Shall Overcome
Galatians 3:26-29; 5:19-26

We shall overcome…

The words of the song
Looked upon me
From the well-worn pages of
A church hymnal;
I turned my heart and soul
Toward those lyrics
As a child looks to the wisdom of
Parents, preachers, and teachers.

We shall overcome…

Such words were not spoken in hope,
Nor given as a promise to be broken;
They reflected a heartfelt belief,
Transcended with God’s power
Into a statement of fact.

We shall overcome someday.

Once we remove idolatry and interest
From “self”
And pair it instead with control,
When we replace hatred and discord
With love and harmony,
And as fits of rage succumb to compassion
And we look beyond racial and social factions
To discover unity within our diversity,
Then someday will become today
And we will overcome all imperfect things,
Just like those who first sang this song
Overcame the bondage of long ago...

Look deeply
Within the mirror of your own soul
And you’ll find the person
With whom this awesome task begins.

Deeply inspirational poetry!

Deep in our heats we do believe God!

It is just so hard to believe how MAN is so screwed up!
