There are
No achievements
Here where I brood,
Only A BLANK SPACE
WAITING for stimulation,
For inspiration and direction,
For more than the unremarkable
To wash through and bring life-

Seems all I have ever done is
Somewhere else now waiting for
Others to sort through it - to taste it -
To comprehend it - so they can partake
Of what Ive experienced in
My journeys and trials in a
Way that I could not have
Known or understood
When I was called
To accomplish it

So I sulk
Here and wait
For my sails to billow open,
To feel impassioned once again,
For shifting sands to produce blossoms,
For anything good to last longer than it does,
For inspiration to regale the indifferences
That put my heart under, knowing that
Trials will cascade like pelters,

And that no one escapes
LIFE while they are living it;
The suffering and uncertainties,
The joys and sorrows,
The highs and lows
Of it, ever

To bless another,
Instead of self, is the
HIGHER CALLING;
Im sure of it

Your clarity is a vision in it self Richard. All one must do is pen to paper when it comes out like this. Enjoyed it very much. Thank you. Karen

We are not here for ourselves, but to contribute to a grander meaning in life, much of which we are part of but do not yet know why ... inspirational as always, Richard.

You are SO right, Richard! To bless another... that is our purpose. I was blessed recently by an angel, passing to the other realm. No words ever could suffice in describing the ways in which she was a blessing and inspiration to me. -- Jeff

There is much to ponder in this piece. The second and last stanzas are my favorites, but the whole poem is beautiful and says so much of what is in my own heart.

Richard,
I can relate to the second stanza most. It's the way I feel when I'm working on a novel in a series. The previous ones wait to be discovered while I move on...adventuring. Love the description of waiting for your "sails to billow open". Inspiration is lightning - impossible to know when it will strike. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

So much to sift through here ~ can the 'self' really be distinguished from 'another's'? How can we be re-imbued/replenished fully and completely with the new unless we allow ourselves complete emptiness? Do our offerings not have inherent value above and beyond that which others may perceive in their taking? Is not the process validation enough that we seek validation through the inhale/exhale of others? How enigmatic that these rhetorical questions seem to lie in our interconnectivity, in our oneness at some level beyond the human experience and yet embedded deeply within it. Ah, the life of an artist - torturous at times, no? Our gift of sensitivity can rear its 'other side' if we do not deliberately choose joy. I know you are so gifted as to present an idea/scenario in such an authentic way that your readers believe it is your own idea/scenario whether it truly is or not - this is what makes you great. Yet, if you are in this place, you may be refueling for your greatest work yet...

This is actually inspiring something... that may become a poem, dearest Richard. Thoughts, memories, too sparse to cohere, and yet too coherent to be voiced... yes, I sense, in this blank space, the elements of much that has filled it, perhaps to overflowing. It's draining, to the point of numbness, I know... but the flow will come again, coursing through the veins... and we'll be blessed because you'll feel blessed... because you are.

After the rush of creativity in the Monumental Journey series, I'm sure that it is harder to recreate that kind of energy again. After just reediting my first book, I'm convinced that I will never write like that again.

It's difficult sometimes to appreciate your own worth. So it seems
the writer of this moving and revealing poem underrates himself and his impact on the world around him. Still...there is a lot of truth
in that last stanza. I like this, Richard. -gene.
