October Winds
The winds are rising, the temperature is dropping.
The trees are changing their leaves to red, yellow and gold.
It’s the time of year for a fireside party with corn a popping.
We sat by the fire and tell stories of old.
We pull those sweaters from the closet from the back to the front.
We start to talk football and snowballs and times spent on the hunt.
We watch as the winds blow this way and that.
“Oh dear,” says I, “Where have I put my hat.
The beauty of autumn is everywhere to be seen
And we are looking forward to celebrating Halloween.
Don’t blink your eyes for it will soon be Thanksgiving
And we are not far from Christmas, a great time for giving.
We rake the leaves and put them in bags of brown.
It won’t be long now till we see snow floating down.
Oh the wonder of autumn as it is announcing that winter is coming soon.
And last but not least we admire the autumn moon.
Enjoy it, my friend for it will pass by so fast.
For it is meant to be short, nay, it will not last.
