Winter has been harsh this year

with snow in dancing abundance

touching my soul with soft stillness

from the warm shelter of my bed

I see my balcony morph into a tiny

little island shining white with

crystal glittering magic

and in a flash I remember awhile ago

Soweto got surprisingly covered with snow

and children were gliding on improvised

sleighs down the slopes of the hills

but the poor froze within their shacks

and Table Mountain in all its majesty

was wearing a bridal veil of the purest

virginal white you could imagine

With a smile I realize that even in the

cold and the dark Africa is always popping

up from a corner of my soul to remind me

of the missing.
