Poetry by Liana Margiva

Having fallen in love with a rich man’s daughter,
He joined the rat race and he fought like a hero
On sports battlefields he shone like a star.
He reached for the stars, but the beauty fluttered off,
Leaving a deep bleeding scar on his heart.
He was unconsolable when his loved one
Became someone else’s wife.

Years of agony and torment flew by
Like frames in a movie.
He had his own life and fathered own kin,
But the pain of forlorn passion was alive:
It burned his soul as painful as before.

He called her in the middle of the night
And cried out his pain, the pain of middle-aged man
Who had it all: the mansions and the cars
But one was still amiss: his loved and peerless one.

And on the other end she listened to the man
Who’s feelings she ignored, who’s love misunderstood.
Abandoned by her husband who fell for someone else,
She quietly shed her tears as she grasped
The depth of pain inflicted on the man

Who has been wanting her since years young,
Who dreamt of her like of a distant star,
Who came from rugs to riches but has not
Fulfilled his life’s long quest

For his forbidden dream, for gorgeous love.
He could have lived, surrounded by wealth
And known not despair for love long lost,
For empty soul

Which longed for one he worshipped,
But by mistake to death was sentenced
And later shot his tortured, lonely heart.

The soil his body took, but his immortal soul
Of happiness depraved,
In love with beauty, rich man’s daughter
Is roaming the Earth, protecting day and night
His loved one from mundane misfortunes.

There is so much you express in this poem:
the story, the feelings, the past, the present...
It could be the beginning of a short story or
a novella.

A drama out of the pages of Tolstoy or Gorky, when the soul is tortured by fate, or the whims of those gods traveling with Siberian winds or hiding in the predawn fog of the slow moving Volga.
