Liana, the writing here is moving and painful and brutal as you invite us to participate in the awful reality of the gallows. As horrible and dedestable the crime may be, we--judges and onlookers--must share the the pain and face the loop of the executioner's rope--one of the most uncivilized things we do in a civilized society. I am drawn particularly to these powerful lines:
The drifter was taken to the gallows…
The people were rejoicing everywhere,
But poor heart of mine was mourning
And, for an instant, our souls were one.
Remarkable writing. -gene.

"Tonight his soul will tremble
For the first time facing the ones he slaughtered.
His lifeless skin will shiver
At the sight of innumerable victims
Gathered to judge him."
your words are spiritually impactual to the depths of our own soul
eternity is so much longer than our time on earth & no deed goes into a memory of forgotten memories
Much Love & Inspiration

| This poetry is chilling in its honesty, but hopeful still in its promise of mercy. It speaks of justice and judgment, of mercy and peace. Death of a Stranger draws the reader into the felon's experience and show us his hope--that of pardon when his penalty is paid. |

This was writing of the highest order...Even within the confines of the coffin and death, there is mercy..'Death will pardon his offences, The grave will console him with peace...'
I found this gripping, yet very moving...

Empathy is a unique gift. Without it, the core of a human being is lost and life is meaningless.
I love these lines in particular, there is so much that can be imagined here:

Together with love, sorrow and doubts"

| the loss of even the most condemnable among us, is never the less, a monumental loss -- a void unable to be filled by any other living soul -- your poem serves to intricately weave the entire fabric of a being who served not the interest of his fellow man well -- yet deep within the heart of us all, compassion for the loss of him beats with a pulse still strong -- may love and peace dance at your feet 'till joy will ask that you repeat -- JMW |

Liana, You have penned quite a chiller. I felt everything that you described in this tale of murder, conviction, and death. One always wonders what a convicted person that is about to be executed really feels, and thinks about. Your poem opens my eyes to possibilities.
Very well thought out and written.
