The Collection
by Dawn L Mullan

Monday, November 20, 2006
Not rated by the Author.

One by one they’re placed

carefully upon the shelf.

Figurines of desire

that grew into hate.

Demented little archive-

A pure collection

of hand-carved, painted statues-

Witnesses who never die.

All but one remains.

The next unrequited love

faithfully waits for a time

to claim this marked space.

As the last piece is crafted,

many others will pursue-

A thrill gotten from the race,

every night and day

for the final rendezvous.

More than these will fall

Shattered remnants spread around.

Pieces of prized possessions

are these little dolls.

Acquired fetish objects

but these parts should not be owned.

Empty home of ghosts,

a secret lair of madness

where figurines once were bone.

Shattered pieces of crafted figurines shouldn't not be the home of ghosts, or hope, or freezing and alone thoughts, because they are passports so the author can enter another world we are not invited to see, like a mirage, but an existing one that allude us.
Fetishes wrapped in words, like those empty spaces left by the crafted symbols that went to their final rendezvous.

The lines of this poem pull at the thought processes makin me think which is what good poetry should really do...that and grip the emotions which this one also manages...well done.

When we get angry, we tend to throw things. Nice imagery Dawn, and I think I see a little sadness here too. You wrrote this well from you heart and emotional feelings. Thanks for sharing, Dawn.

Merry Christmas to you and your family and loved ones, and a very Happy New Year too.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, babrie

You have a remarkable way with words.
Each elicits a different emotion when read.

Enjoyed.

An ontologic psychological depicting of today's society in a symbolistic philosophical poetic grand -- make "The Collection" a glowing page to enrich The American Fine Letters.

I salute You, Poet.

I think there's a lot more to this than what appears "on the surface." It think the figurines are symbolic; well that's the way I interpret this. The fact that you made me think and read and read again indicates that you have an effective poem here, Dawn. Thank you for sharing it. Love to you (and peace too),
