i am the grandmother of these twins. i love them very much.

PLEASE DON'T HURT THE BABY
he was only a little boy of three,
when his daddy came home late,
the little boy started crying,
his daddy's anger turned to hate.
his daddy went into his room,
it was more then he could stand,
shut up his daddy told him,
as he hit him with his hand.
please don't hurt the baby,
the little boy did say,
his daddy looked into his eyes,
and slowly walked away.
when the little boy grew older,
a baby sister came their way,
she was a sickly baby,
but her brother loved her anyway.
one night she started crying,
her daddy was so up tight,
he went into the baby's room,
and shook her with all his might.
please don't hurt the baby,
the little girl did say,
she looked into her daddy's eyes,
then she passed away.
the little boy became a man,
he got married to a wonderful wife,
he soon became a daddy,
his son was his whole life.
the little baby  started crying,
he was tired from working all day,
but he went into his baby's room,
and held him anyway.
he looked into his big blue eyes,
and held his baby tight,
please don't hurt the baby,
were the words that ended that night.

A brilliant piece. Hopefully this will help to spread more awareness of an all too common, tragic senario. As a new mum, to my eight week old little boy, I cannot think of many things more horrendous than child abuse. People need to be educated about dealing with their stress and coping with frustrations, instead of taking it out on small, defenceless people that we are supposed to protect. Thankyou for writing this!

"Please don't hurt the baby"

Alice, superbly penned, horrific, gut knotting write!
This is about the best penning I have had the opportunity
to read about child abuse!

The cycle of dysfunction broken; the sins of the father do not need to be visited upon the children. Thank you for sharing this offering, Alice. Love and peace to you,

POWERFUL, POWERFUL, POWERFUL Alice. I also write for the children. Many can't speak up for themselves. Thank you for being their voice. Child abuse is so widespread, we need to shout it to the world..DON'T HURT THE BABY. Awesome poetry.

Shaking a baby is so easily in killing it. It is called the shaken-baby-syndrome, because the baby's neck is so soft and so easily to be broken. People should not have babies unless they're ready for them. I'm glad the son grew up to be a caring father.

Good write, Alice!
