City of Themes

Drip drop of subway relays
races of black and grey suits
yellow flashes, taxi delays
city of rain fall, highway roots.

Trolleys and car horn sounds
the perfume of a yesterday spirit
gunfire and sirens midnight loud
It's the whisper of a forgotten secret.

City of Themes with style and flare
pasty mash of colors and sorrows
swirl of indecency and sidewards glares
the roar of the day after no tomorrow.

Warriors and Poets walked your streets
the skies were not always so bland
sounds of musicians in lost summer heat
as they played in their one-hit bands.

Lovers gaze amidst the fog of romance
it lit the corners and the theologians cafe's
the peace of which kept humans entranced
and kept them interested in only their Today's.

City of Themes with rouge and shadow
your brilliant glow tarnished and frozen
an oasis under a plutonian Ice Age snow
a refuge for the rejected and the chosen.

Downfall which the people of Pompeii covet
that Apocalyptic boom that ended your sonata
your ashen history engraved in hematite facet
glittering and mourning in a forever echoing stanza.

City of Themes, you are not long away and gone
your death rings eternal in your survivors shame
warriors vanish, instruments quiet, I, the last poet, sing your song
and it is I, in which, your downfall lies, for I am to blame.

For it was my lover's glance and my sidewards glare
it was my vibrant heat, my ice age, and my symphony
and under your frozen lattice and sky do I herby declare
that in your final moments, last breath, death, you are truly...lovely.

Miss Aki ...
I commend you on this powerful write. Impressive and, in this writers opinion, your very best to date.

"the perfume of a yesterday spirit" is truly an enchanting line for me. A poetic gem worthy to be worn in a jeweled coronet.

Kudos ...
