Time of Our Lives

From the Darkest Hours
come the Brightest Sunrise

Originally I thought it couldn't be done
that this war was forever and couldn't be won
and I'd pray each night on sacred rosary
prayers that strengthened and stocked my armory
but doubt was there like it has always been
and to it did my will faithfully tend.

Originally I believed all hope was lost
that I'd paid the dearest of all high costs
but then I heard someone come in the dark
set hand to my forehead and traced a mark
for a minute I thought to open my eyes
but knew this angel came in disguise.

But when the hand did depart
I sat up with a semi-surprised start
as though waking from a long long dream
or a nightmare that had drawn a silent scream
I fumbled for my bed side light
switched it on to scare away the night
and grabbed the rosary from night stand
and smiled a Thank you to it in my hand.

The next day, which Originally I thought would be bad
brought a new life and new adventure to be had
I replaced the word Problem with Opportunity
and found I could do no wrong, but kept my humility
and now as I write I know I'll never forget
the abysmal lows that we brought with regret
but I realize now, more than ever before
that God is standing, ear cupped, against my door.
