I brought my heart to Jesus and He brought his to me. Mine was all torn and dirty, and longing to be free.
His heart was pure and spotless, and had no taint of sin.
My heart held wicked secrets that told what I had been.
I had no hope of winning a pardon from the Lord,
until I looked in his eyes and listened to his words,
Come closer to me, Child, and give me all your sin;
I'm ready to forgive you if you invite me in."
He said he came from heaven a sacrifice to be,
and gave his life in payment for sinners just like me.
My heart was stained and tattered ~ I yearned to be made clean ~
Then, on my knees in sorrow, I gave my heart to him.
When He handed back my heart, I found to my surprise,
It sparkled like a diamond ~ so bright, it hurt my eyes.
I said, "You are mistaken! My heart is not like this."
It was so pure and lovely, I knew it must be His.
He gently touched my face, and said, "My child, it's true ~
For when you gave me your heart, I gave my own to you."
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,
the new creation has come;
The old has gone, the new is here!
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us,
so that in him we might become
the righteousness of God."
