In the weeks following the World Trade Center terrorist attack, Americans were united in grief, in patriotism, in calling out to God. Throughout the USA, everyone from politicians to paupers prayed unashamedly, and together sang "God Bless America." The signs of a united Christian nation soon faded into oblivion as things returned to normal. Now, 8 years later, America seems to have lost her way, as God is often treated as a stranger in our land.
This is the poem I did not enjoy writing; the facts so many ignore.
God bless America, and restore our nation to You.
AMERICA, BLESS GOD!
America, you lift your voice in song
and call in heartfelt prayer upon the Lord.
United now, you sing "God Bless America,"
forgetting that you've trampled on His Word.
Amidst the horrors wrought upon your land,
your tears flow for the carnage of the free,
forgetting the millions of your babies
who cry in pain, "Why do you slaughter me?"
While children by the thousands live in fear,
their homes bereft of any loving care;
Their Moms and Dads, bound by a Godless culture,
are left with only bitterness to share.
In the name of liberty, your entertainment
has ravaged every child's innocence
with blasphemy, depravity and death;
Oh, America, how long till you repent?
Your bodies, which were made to serve your God,
in lust and gross perversion are misused;
while the marriage vow, once cherished and respected,
is cast aside, belittled and abused.
America, awaken to your sin now --
it's time to hearken to His earnest plea --
while God extends His loving hand of mercy,
inviting you, "Return! Return to Me!"
Then He will hear your fervent cry for pardon;
deliver you from wicked ways you've trod.
America, it's time to heed His gracious call
and turn back to your God now --
He'll heal your land, America!
Oh, America -- America, bless God!
"If my people, who are called by my name,
shall humble themselves, and pray,
and seek my face,
and turn from their wicked ways,
then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin,
and will heal their land."
(2 Chronicles chapter 7: verse 14)

|Oh so true, Connie. It seems this country only calls on the Lord when it is acceptable. Every day is the perfect time. And the marriage vows, my wife and I just celebrated our 38th anniversary. May God bless you every day of your life.

|I love the point you raise in the first verse. Faith should be always, not just in times of need. This has a beautiful flow to it and it's delivery is powerful. A must read! Love and Hugs~

|The truth is ever so hard to swallow. I'm amazed by the few reviews you have on this poem. This is what should be printed in newspapers and magazines....|

|Dear Connie, Sorry I missed this powerful poem you've written; so full of truth. You have quoted one of my favorite verses. But will America and indeed the world heed this cry to repent and return to the Lord? Will they wait for another crisis before they once again cry out to the Lord? Pity that they have not clued in that they should first turn from their wicked ways and seek His face before He will heal our land. Folk just seem to always put the cart before the horse!
You have penned a mighty poem, Connie. God Bless you.

|This is a mighty piece of truth told with strong words and power that need to be said. Many folks don't believe this, but God is a Gentleman & won't force Himself on those who reject Him. Has He removed His hand of protection from our beloved land? If so, who could blame Him. Thanks for the courage to post this, Connie.|
