Are ye able to pray?
Nay, for thy burden is heavy
and God's arm, so mighty to save,
is hidden from thee in the dark, lonesome valley;
and the faith He so readily gave
is unable to fortify thee.
Are ye able to pray?
Call thy brother, thy sister, to weep,
to cry for thee in their night's sleep ~~
to stand in the gap, call thy name,
and plead to the Lord for thy pain ~~
to uphold thee when the way is too steep.
God would not allow thee to go through the vale
if no one stood tall in thy place.
He wouldn't expect thee to carry the load
if He hadn't provided the love and the grace;
for His burden-sharers, tho' weak when alone,
are able to bear thee to the cross and the throne.
Are ye able to pray?
Only groan in thy heart,
for the Spirit of Jesus is close by thy side,
to hold and renew thee, with thee to abide;
and He takes thy weak cries, clarified and refined,
to touch the Father's heart and bring
peace to thy mind.
