Our 50th reunion was this year. Most people even forgot we had a class song, but not Barb. To everyone's amazement, when the Class President asked us to try and sing it together, she alone sang the whole song, not missing a word, and telling me later that she hadn't sung it since graduation.

Class Song of Coal Township High, 1959
co-authors Kay Klebasko and Connie Rutkoskie
Tune: "Only You"

Now's the time;
It's graduation day.
We must part --
Each go his separate way.

Our future lies ahead;
Whatever it may be,
We forever will remember C.T.

Coal Township --
Its happy, cherished halls --
Teachers, friends,
Initials on the walls.

As our minds recall all this,
Our eyes are filled with tears.
We know that now we end our finest years.

Those four years --
The goal that seemed so far;
A diploma was our shining star.

Now the time is nigh,
So with a sigh
Of sorrow, it's goodbye

To our classmates, and
to Dear Coal Township High.

How the nostalgia carries me back as I silently sing the song of a school long gone.  It's on a timeworn piece of paper; scrawled across the bottom, my Mom has written:
                           "Connie
                               d'ya want this?"

       Oh, yes, Mom, I want it;
                   don't ever throw it away!

Funny how these memories just come back to us ... in ways that perhaps we never appreciated when we were actually living the time.
I suppose my school had a song too ... but I can't remember it .... but I do remember the wonderful friends I had at Dominican Commercial in Jamaica, New York. Thanks for the reminder. Susan
