Shivers

In the silent covers of night
Under those crisp cold sheets
I lay awake, eyes open
The ceiling seems so close
The world seems so far away
My room is cold again
Winter comes too quickly
So I dream of cocoa & cookies
Of sparkling multicolored lights
Rosy cheeks & children smiling
So that when I think of the chill
Of those months stretching
Impossibly from the last flower
Wilting into nothingness
Until the first spring bloom
That it will not seem all chill
That I may forget the clean
Barren sparseness of white sheets
And the thick white quilt that somehow
Cannot keep out the lonliness

I feel your pain here. Winter is hard for me. I love how the "thick white quilt" already fails in its attempt to keep things warm and rosy. It's like you never get rid of the shivers no matter what. That is, until spring.
