There is No Fight in Us

These times when your heart is bruised

You walk out into cold winter air

To find your warmth again

I am chilled by the silence left behind

Sad that we hurt as we misundertand

Losing hold of all that is obvious

Confusion gives my words stings & barbs

That never could belong to my mouth

When it opens near you

Stepping back to check out

Distance finds us easily again

Safer than the heat that burns

Between our eyes, between the lines

We cross too boldly brazen

Mad even in my ever open arms

At hurts I never knew I'd caused you

Silently weighing out the balance of us

On a  scale that  tips both ways on a whim

Your careful heart still far enough away

Yet to understand underneath my masks

Secretly I'm made of almost only softness

Earthy pliable clay that yearns only

To be sculpted by the warm smoothness of your hands

My tender heart melts over your lips

Love spilling overfull like a river

Flooding the plains wetly engulfing

Unsuspecting ground with life & death

Flowing faithfully  past the straights &  bends

Opening wide to kiss the oceans salty mouth

All I feel too expansively pure to be petty

Too richly brilliant for simple discords

Much too full of sweet for bitterness

As long as there is love, there is no fight in us

So I give all of me in black & white & grey

That in time you may know what I mean
