Letting You Go On Without Me

About letting go of a dying loved one.

I bid you as I sit here for our last farewell

That your heart let go to soar far above this fickle world

No longer caged in imperfect flesh you can be free

To fly high above the cloudy days I slowly lost you in

Escaping the dark places your sickness brought you to

Going on into beautiful sunsets to be reborn in sunrise

For while I am losing you in my world here on earth

I will take comfort in knowing that you have regained

All that you were in the best of times, all that you could be

That the hero that you always were to me is no longer

Wrapped in painful silences & trapped in a broken body

I will take comfort knowing you are not suffering anymore

Until we meet again, I will keep you alive in memory

Never forgetting all that you have meant, all that you gave

The little things you did years ago, I still remember

All that you have shown to me in your short time here

Even your passing shows me to value each precious day

You will live on in my heart as you were before you were sick

Vibrantly living as I know you will be, peacefully joyful

Finally comforted, finally made whole again,

The great circle of birth and death but an illusion

For I know you will exist in our hearts & in spirit always

Though life has taken you down its windy path to death

I will let you go on for now down this path without me

Just beyond the veil, for I know we will meet again in heaven

And I will finally have you back as you were always meant to be
