Drifting

Why is the wood cursed?

The planet much worse

Then the next fiery morning

The whole universe is rapidly imploding

With all the stars around exploding

Found down by the river

Flood-raged lodged in rock bed

Baking in the blistering sun

Till dried up and dead

That’s when the enemy attacks and comes.

I call you my the Dream Giver

I met you swimming in the ecstasy river

Fragilely drifting

Mercy runs through your veins

You pump it through my skin

Till I cave in

With such climaxes

Again and again.

You use words I’d like to repeat

Be my muse in mink coated sheets

Tree limbs ripped off in the storm

One with a bruised heart

That used to be warm

Dying for a new start

One with a broken arm

Amputation cause for alarm

Suffered enough harm.

After the violent war storm

We’re all fragilely drifting

Bobbing down stream to the gulf shore

Floating in a dream

Where constantly we’re bombarded once more

Gasping for freshness to be inhaled

Exhale, let it resuscitate

Do it over and over again till we break

Bring back the wind

Gentle this time - send.

I want to feel it on my face

Close my eyes

Collect all within sight

Do it all through the day and night.

Use my fingers to feel

Squeeze with all my might

Tonight -- then maybe tonight -- I’ll know

How to brighten and adorn your face with a smile

All I need is a little while. . . . . . . . .

Fierce, violent, stormy emotions. The gentle wind is needed to hush the cataclysmic moment.

This is incredibly beautiful, liberated writing Doug!
There is a softness to it, a romance and a passion to it as you take us through the quixotic nature of love and pain, genuine longing.
Really awesome writing!!!
Ever,
Christine

This is a world and time in chaos, Douglas. I think your verses express that and a desire for calm and peace. Love and best wishes,
