The Mighty Mississippi
The mighty Mississippi
Pride in the Choctaw
And the Cherokee.
They were known as rebels
Called each other brother
Swords would shine
Especially at dinner time when they drank the wine
And the way they marched and danced – pretty fine.
Taught by the best
To be better than all the rest.
Now it’s halls are filled with thorns
Crawling with snakes
The roof collapsing
The foundation cracked – makes me mourn
There’s a marker over yonder
But no bones – makes one wonder
How many soldiers birthed?
How many thirst?
Which ones went first?
Home of the eagle
Now it’s fame
Is to blame
Destined to burn in flame.
Once the pride - South of the Mason Dixon Line
If not for each other - do it in remembrance of mother
Flowers appear – there’s nothing to fear.
Can’t you hear - the mighty Mississippi flows near.
Where the barges float from Ohio
All the way down to the Gulf of Mexico
Lost in a dream
There the mighty Mississippi flows
