Oh, our children...

A child captivates your total heart
Without knowing they can tear it apart
Throughout they never lose your love
And when needed you become the dove
Of peace

The beauty of their souls and spirit
Catches your breath and shows you your limits
But you would never dash their hopes
Their growth teaches you to cope
With lack of peace

Looming larger they take on the world
For better or worse they give it a twirl
Your mind is spinning with it all
You just hope they give you a call
And some peace

The journey of your child through life
Is glory through all the strife
A rough ride or smooth as glass
One thing is certain is they grow up too fast
And with that you must find peace

How Wonderfully true this is....
I dont think any human on this earth
can warm your heart more or cut it deeper
than a child. They are such gifts from God

Really enjoyed this

Glad you enjoyed Queen of this house
I so appreciate your time to not just read
(sing along LOL) but to leave such a heart warming
comment.
Thank you
Hugs

Good write and thought on a well-chosen subject, Liz. It brought back to mind something my grandmother said at the age of 93, "People seem to think they are finished with their children when they leave home at 18 to 21. I'm here to tell you, your child is your child for life." The older I get, the more I realize she was exactly right----Jerry

Very good but in each stanza I would remove the bottom line. It is not necessary and distracts from the rest. Pamela Murawski

Is this a specific form of poetry? I liked the repeating theme of peace. Another apt title for this piece could be "finding peace"...

Hello Liz,

I can feel the love, concern, joy, longing and acceptance all rolled into every paragraph. I can relate to this one hundred percent. Beautiful rendering of your thoughts as a mother.

May 2009 bring you good luck, more love and peace of mind. Be well.

all too true and beautifully chronicled, Liz. The pain and joy in equal measure is powerfully captured in your maternal-heartfelt lines here. May 2009 bring many-faceted blessings to you and yours. Kate xx

Very touching Elizabeth, we have raised five and watched as four moved on to make a new life and our baby girl still lives at home at the age of 23 and it tears my heart out at the thought of her leaving again. We went through it when she went of to university. Thank you for sharing.

Newfie hugs, Rose
