Your impatient oath

Foretells

The destructiveness

Of your wrath; your rage

Is hardly civil,

A killer unleashed.

It matters not

That what you have,

Others would die for,

That your empire,

With its problems, its insatiable need

To consume you

Is still Eden

To those without hope, aware

That peonage

Will be all there is

Through time.

With what arrogance, though,

What lack of temper

You jolt and beat about,

Flaying at the sides

Of your pretty, gilded cage.

Those unimportant men you pay

Wove the steel and lattice mesh. . .

But peons only formed the bars. . .

You flitted in yourself.
