Unwelcome contemplation...beginnings and endings...part of the human path always...
|
Summer’s End
Footprints
Lead across the sand
Going on into water
Going gladly
To the green and quiet
Depths.
I linger there
At the edge
Watching
Someone lead the way
But I’ve followed
All my life.
Slowly
The sea
Collapses in,
Shudders
Against my cold, bare feet
And goes,
Taking away
Those final, faint impressions,
Leaving the sand unmarked.
At last, mine could be the footprints
Leading in
Leading on . . .
I too consider
Going on
Going
To the green and quiet depths.

Soul-grasping sentiments, Leslie. Someone very close to me chose that route. Thank you for sharing. Love, peace, and strength to you,

There is something frighteningly ambivalent about this piece. Like a bilateral stance of one contemplating suicide and of one attempting to reach farther into the unknown. Where in the world were you emotionally when you wrote this?
