A New Year's Toast

A New Year's toast: no great
And garish
Champagne fete, no neon
Or noisemakers.
Kneeling alone
By a river's darkened banks,
Silenced
By the stars, amazed
As always
By the night, just a passing thought
Held out in hope:
Let the world
Come back to peace--
Let men
Be unafraid
To walk the night,
To wonder
At the miracle
That each day is--
If only hate and death
Are dealt away,
And blood lust
Is replaced by exaltation
In what the human soul
Could be...and will.

| Right on, sista!! If everyone would just step out on a calm night and look up at the stars, they would feel what our world could be. |
