Martyrs. The world's streets
Are ittered
With dead and dying martyrs,
Those who had a cause
Or were told
They did.

But slaughter
Is slaughter; there are no martyrs,
Only mad dogs
Spitting out
The life blood
Of the world,
Devastating
What should have been Eden
Through all of man's time.

Quotation marks are used on purpose to emphasize my thoughts on "martyrs." The tragic events of last year, and the recent murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, made me look again at some of the poem I wrote in the 80s, when terror was already taking an enormous toll around the world.

Fanatics have a mind-set all their own, Leslie. Eden is a dream. Great write, stark message.
