After hearing the news that I had multiple chronic diseases causing my pain, I fell into a dark place. This is what came out one day in 2007. When I read this poem, I see how accepting the physical change led me to a better place. I had to go through the dark to see the light, which I am in now. (Photo is provided by NASA.) |

Confused, unsure, hurting, unarmed, hopeless, no light.
Doubtful, afraid, treading water, drowning in pain.
Courage, hope, strength discharged along the way; emptied.
Lost, alone, scared, blinded by sickness, worldly goods.
Dismayed, shamed, bled, hopeless to change, no will to live.
Dark cold places, suffering beyond Heaven’s grace.
It’s here faith breeds, stripped, barren, culled for growth.
Places of change, freed from the past, opened to new.
Cleared, plowed, prepared, seeding, feeding, sprouting, renewed.
Dark places, weeds, transformed through trust, new life begins.

Let us hope you can make a new life out of all this. New cures come out every day for diseases thought incurable. I'm waiting for stem cell spinal cord therapy.

| The phoenix rising comes to mind. We all have our rock bottom and we have to make a choice...do embrace the dark place or rise above it, allowing the light of God to help us. Good for you to have chosen the light, and to give testimony of it here, in this wonderful write. Thank you. Be well, Kathy |

I feel so much melancholy for you Eleanor and there is always hope, prayer and God doesn't put, give or allow things you can't handle, HE's there to lift you and is the ultimate healer! So don't despair! Stay prayerful as HE strengthens you! Your poem has very descriptive wording yet sad but very well written. I was deeply touched. Thanks for sharing it and may God Bless you and keep you.
Sincerely,
Debbie |
