A Lonely Heart

You can still be lonely when you have a million friends.

Inside yourself is this place
Where sadness seems to dwell
It always raises its ugly face
When things aren’t going so well.

It brings along some tears
Which you stifle and try to hide
You feel like screaming at the world
But instead have to bury it all inside.

For an empty heart is a lonely one
When you wait so long to love
And pray and hope that truly one day
He will arrive on the wings of a dove.

But still the days pass by quickly
As the loneliness and despair grow
Still believing in the tomorrows
As you long to hear “I love you so!”

You desire strong arms around you
When you are tired or feel scared
Or just someone else to turn to
Who would show they truly cared.

So every night when you go to bed
You pray to your Lord above
That in his wisdom and foresight
He will finally send you someone to love.

Is it any comfort to know that all of us Sapiens of the genus Homo share this feeling of lostness to various degrees? Perhaps not, since each life comprises a solitary, eclectic search for value that orbits (for unknown reasons) around a greater (and even more unknowable) mystery of the unknown. And yet, when one considers it, who TRULY understands what life is all about has not YET been born. Meanwhile, we must just keep on keeping on and remain hopeful, for when hope finally does die, so does life itself. I enjoyed this write of yours as another who leads a life of quiet desperation. Mahalo nui loa.

Beautiful penned piece full of expression and a desire to love and be loved. Yes you can be alone even with many friends or standing in a crowd...

Be safe,
Karen
