Hope

Aunt Debra lay in the city hospital bed
Covered to her chin in a snow-white sheet
Her three loving children were crying
Standing at the end of the bed at her feet.

I was ten years old and very sad.
Wanting to help each one to cope.
With forethought, I brought a little bottle
And wrote on the label: HOPE

This is for Aunt Debra, I said
And each of you who are worried to tears
This is to help you hope for the best
Through power of faith to ease your fears.

God said, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed…
Nothing shall be impossible unto you. (Matthew 17:20)
So, if we want Aunt Debra to get well again
We have to think what we want to come true .

I see many have visited but no one has paused to post a review comment for well over a year and a half. I'll change that.

What an energizing and symbolic treasure is one little bottle labled Hope. No matter what our feelings of oppression and helplessness, Hope keeps us alive. Your quoted scripture is right on point, Jeanette, for Faith is the mother of Hope. So long as we have Faith, nothing is lost.

Your closing line is powerful: "We have to think what we want to come true." In my mantra on my AD Profile page, I give my own more fuller version: "What we focus upon becomes reality. I have the power to choose."

I think a little bottle labled Hope is a great reminder.

Enjoy the holiday season, my precious friend.

Faith and prayer can work miracles, just like laughter can. I like this literal translation of hope in a bottle. A great symbol, to give those you care about the strength they need to get through. This is truly an inspirational write~ Sheila

A mustard seed ain't very big, is it?
It's the nagging fear of disbelief in the back of our minds that wipes out even that little bit of faith.
