A False Interpretation

I read a speech by the father of a Columbine High student who was killed, and it was so inspiring I wrote this poem.

A False Interpretation

We need God back in classrooms and schools
Administering to the sick and angry at heart
We need Him to help lonely, lost souls
And lead them in the paths of righteousness to a new start.

The violence too frequently found in schools
Needs God’s hand to stop mayhem in this chaotic world
Too bad one particular group is bent on destroying our heritage
And leaving entropy and confusion to unfurl.

This group is trying to kill God just as surely
As did Jesus’ enemies when they slew him on the cross
What did such adversity accomplish?
Deeds of violence,  a catastrophic loss if not for the resurrection.

Man is a spiritual being if nothing else
Needing the divinity of God’s wisdom overall
To carry him through the trials of life
Give him strength and endurance to stand firm, proud and tall.

How can the government take God out of the schools
When its a direct conflict with rights granted by the constitution?
Separation of church and state was not meant
To silence one’s beliefs and prayers in any institution.

It was concisely written to prevent government
From dictating a religion for the populace
That would deprive them of religious rights
And put limits on the faith of the human race.

It was meant to keep government out of religion
not to keep religion out of the government.

"Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion,
or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
or abridging the freedom of speech…”

You have this exactly right, Jeanette. If we made every effort to remove the spiritual from the human, and thought we had done it, another spirit and spiritual system would only enter to take its place because our lives are not entirely of this world. We owe it to our children to share with them hard-earned insights about the truth of the spiritual world which I share with you is best taught and illustrated by our Lord, Jesus..........Jerry

Jeanette,
Definitely a huge problem in society today. As we bend for other cultures living in America, we seem to lose everything that made America special in the first place. This is a passionate piece that triggers my feelings on the subject. I couldn't agree more. Well done! Love and Hugs,
Sheila

Jeanette,

Very well said. These days using the name of God only seems to be when it's in vain or as a last resort. Peace, Love and Blessings always, Paul.

Jeanette, this is such an exceptional write, with so much meaning & truth spelled out for any reader to understand. As a very young child, I remember the class room session was opened with the Lords Prayer and I felt so secure & happy to know God was in our classrooms. We'd also stand proud and tall with our hand over our hearts as we recited "Pledge of Allegiance`. I, to this day, get chills as I recite this pledge...it was felt in the core of our souls. A great write!

I think we also need parents to be parents once more. Far too many today want to leave 'parenting' completely up to our schools, and it sadly doesn't work.

Amen my friend! I agree with you one hundred percent! When they took prayer out of school it was the beginning of trouble. I recall going to elementary school and the principal making his morning anouncement...please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, and then please bow your head for prayer! It was a simple prayer, no mention of religion belief...just a united prayer for all, for teachers wisdom and patience, students understanding behavior and knowledge and for all to work in harmony. What was wrong with that? Nothing! It seems that our country was founded with the belief in God, but today their is such a division, too many focusing on the word religion and not enough on prayer, salvation, faith, and belief...I personally believe that many are being mislead by analyzing too deeply and not following their hearts, after all that is where we allow God in and where he lives! What happened to love thy neighbor, what happened to the ten commandments, what happened to simply living for Him...when I was growing up, it was just something that you expected from adults and always knew that some day you would also. There is no fear within most of society today, no respect for Him...makes me wonder if He is feeling as He did when He told Noah to build the Ark, when He wanted to rid the world of wickedness? It's a scary time my friend, for me I'll just continue to serve Him, enjoy and appreciate every day He gives me and tell others of His wonderful love and peace! A very inspirational write my friend! Bravo!
Blessings from Ky.

Yes, I agree! We seem to be gravitating backwards when it comes to governmental laws and dictating of rights. Remember the Boston Tea Party? The Revolutionary War? The civil War? They were here on our own soil fighting for our own rights, now where are we in another country struggling to get some stinking oil controlling other people
and their rights, what is going on with this country anyway?
Whew, sorry, I guess I feel passionate about what you have written..
Peace, love, and light,
