Silent Autumn
It is unusually quiet outside this wet morning
As autumn spreads silently o’er the green land
Like a remorseful wake prior to a funeral
Issuing a silence in a time of shifting sands.
The dark blue morning resembles mountain weather
After a rain came pouring down last night
There is dew on leaves, grass, plants and trees
And fog like diaphanous sheets backlit by light.
It is darker than usual on this cool morn
Daylight Savings time will soon come to an end
We’ll gain an hour for several months
Then change the clocks back in March again.
But for now, autumn bows its head
In gentle, solemn repose marked by seasonal death
Preparing to scatter the ground with colorful leaves
Quietly sifting down to earth on silent breath.
