I wasn't sure what category to place this poem in, I felt nature was the best suited. I hope that this poem inspires those who are not already working toward a greener tomorrow to begin today and encourage those who work so hard to make our earth a better place! It is a very rewarding as well as worthy and needful way of life...

Green…

A simple word in the English language
used in society yesterday and today
In 2008 we hear it more and more
a single word that says so much
one that brings warm thoughts to my mind
and speaks to my heart.
A word that is common
a word that has become popular
one used in the past and still today...
for other reasons…other descriptions
decorations, golfing, money and such…
The same word spelled exactly as before
now a solution for the mistakes
mistakes made by many
mistakes from our past!
An effort to rescue our earth
to save our resources
a prayer…that our precious Mother Earth will last!
One that I am sure makes God smile
the word GREEN now more than a color
more than a word…
GREEN…now a message of hope!
Hope for brighter tomorrows, hope for the future
and hope for today!
Recycle, re-use… and rewards we shall reap!
Go GREEN!
Not just a phrase or expression…
But a commitment, a life-style…a necessity for life...
so Mother Earth we may keep…

Joyce,
I just wish someone would police large companies more because they need to make every effort they can, just like the rest of us. They are the biggest offenders. Oil spills, smog, electricity, water, garbage...are they recycling? This is a great poem to build awareness. Beautiful sentiments! Love and Hugs~

You certainly have captured the true essence. Yes, green to some to teach, other to learn all to band together and help our mother earth to celebrate in the cornucopia of fruitfullness....

Also one hears about being gree of envy, missing the green and be dumped in a sand trap, green is my valley, emerald green (my favorite stone)and last but not least, the green of hope.
Nice done, girl from the Kentucky mountains...

Very good, Joyce. It is timely and challenging. Good writing, too.

Two extremes come to mind: China with its population numbering in the billions, now;

Joyce,

I wonder ... is it already too late? Why hasn't mankind listened to the warnings? I can remember back in the day celebrating Earth Day - is its message only important one day a year? Lord, I pray it's not too late - let's all do our part. Thought provoking excellence!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
