                 Edible delights.....

Leaves reaching up to welcome the sun,
in the early morning breeze gently waving.
Soft, supple, silky to the touch,
yet, holding on dearly as if an inner craving.

All too soon a cornucopia of color,
embellishes the landscape in orange and gold.
Seasons are changing, leaves become brittle,
floating down, kissing ground, taking hold.

Collecting in corners and under bushes,
rustling, crackling, like tiny tumbleweed.
A time for children to gather in fun,
rolling, playing as if an innate need.

Summer heat has moved to another place,
mother earth prepares for a long winter sleep.
Many furry friends are burrowed underground,
sharing stored food, making nearly a peep.

Store windows filled with pilgrims of old,
edible delights, figurines in period attire.
Something very special fills the air,
children's anticipation soon to transpire.

Subtle scent of food teasing the appetite,
is smelling good as it permeates all around.
Turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cakes, and pies,
with soft music playing in surround sound.

Family and friends begin to gather,
bringing eggnog, cookies, pastries, and wine.
A day to share stories of what came before,
a meal fit for a king will surely shine.

We bow our heads remembering those moved on,
as we give thanks for this humble bounty.
Making time to give to those less fortunate,
with a special thanks to troops, God, and country.

Santa will soon be making his debut,
in a parade of floats, balloons, bands, and clowns.
Dancers, jugglers, singers, sports figures,
all to bring smiles and wipe away the frowns.

         Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Karen, your imagery is fabulous. You collected the sights, sounds and aromas together and bound them with human emotions. I can see the falling kaleidescope of color and hear the rushing flutter of the falling leaves. Your poem a panoply of verse and rhyme to delight any reader. I bid you love and peace my dear friend.
