         God bless and thanks....

Seems a good time to take a long walk,
bright, warm, sunshine in full profusion.
Early in the morning when all remains quiet,
no chance of stumbling, no chance of illusion.

God bless and thanks....

Birds flying high, riding on the jet stream,
wings spread wide while gazing down.
Gliding and swooping, with the greatest of ease,
remaining stoic, not a smile, or a frown.

God bless and thanks....

Trees begin swaying in a rhythmic motion,
as the whimsical breeze rustles the leaves.
Strange scents and sounds take over the mind,
as if footsteps marching, stopping at ease.

God bless and thanks....

Thinking about a time before telephones,
before emails, texting, satellites and more.
When adolescent boys fresh out of school,
became men on our soil an on a foreign shore.

God bless and thanks....

Nathanael Greene to John Paul Jones,
Caesar Rodney to Francis Lightfoot Lee.
Stonewall Jackson to Ulysses S. Grant,
remembering never forgetting is the key.

God bless and thanks....

From the USS Constitution to the USS Arizona,
many battles fought, most won, some lost.
The USS Bonhomme Richard to the USS Missouri,
lives come and go, but at what great cost.

God bless and thanks....

Many souls lost, yesterday and today,
remaining in the memories faithful and true .
Leaving behind families and many good friends,
strongly believing in the red, white, and blue.

God bless and thanks....

Visiting, meeting, greeting the brave of today,
laughter, hand shaking, even hugs to go around.
Destiny calls for deployment across the seas,
wondering how many return safe above ground.

God bless and thanks....

Permission to take a photograph, each with a smile,
may the angels stay alert and hear the call.
Photo treasured and by Old Glory to be displayed,
and may God watch over to protect them all.

God bless and thanks....

Each day to pay tribute to faces with no name,
God bless every one donning the uniform at station.
A split second of time caught in a haunting photo,
accepting their fate, bringing pride to our nation.

                  God bless and thanks!
              Happy Memorial Day to All!

Thank you for this. It is important to remember each of them, the ones who serve as well as our fallen. Without the American Soldier, I would never know all that I have in life; I owe them everything that I hold dear.
Take care,

Karen, your Memorial Day memorial is as compassionate as I have ever read my dear friend. To fail to be thankful and express our thanks to America's best is unfathomable. We are merely the recipients of the duty and commitment to God and country of our men and women in service. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

God bless and thanks to YOU for remembering WHY we celebrate a holiday like Memorial Day! It shouldn't be about the sales or getting out with family or friends: it should be thanking those who served or those who died defending our nation! I personally think ALL stores should be closed on Memorial Day!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Burleson, Texas, Karen Lynn. ;D

Be safe: may be bad weather later today; y'all are in my prayers~

This is indeed one of your very best, having gotten to know you as both a friend and a historian I know your loyalty to the men and woman who go above and beyond to keep our lands free, is truly from the heart. As Americans and Canadians we have so much to be thankful for, have pride in, and respect, all too often we do lose sight of the big picture but you have brought it home in this wonderful tribute to all those who gave and kept our countries free.
thank you Karen

Great write, Karen. Being a veteran of the Vietnam era and Operation Iraqi Freedom your thank you means a lot.
May I point out one thing in your last stanza, however?
"God bless every one darning the uniform at station."
The word "darning" should be spelled "donning" as in wearing or putting on an outfit, a uniform or other attire.
I pray you don't mind me pointing this out.
Have a great day and God bless.
