SHE SITS ON A SHELF
by Vernon J. Davis Jr.
On a shelf she sits,
Placed by Him
Right between the copper girl
With the chipped heart
And the older woman on the pedestal.
On a shelf she sits,
Waiting impatiently
For Him to love her.
She's not like the others,
She thinks.
He won't leave me here, unwanted.
Not like He left them.
So she waits for Him
To take her down
And rescue her.
On a shelf she sits,
Alone with the other
Forgotten trophies.
Now, she hopes to fall
And break
Into tiny pieces of escape.
Then she'll know for sure
She's free from the shelf
Free
From Him.
