My room is not like your room although it's a little like your room with different beginnings and arrangements.

In this room I live in,

the fires are forever furious,

criss crossing in continuous cascades

of lightning speed image

that can be stopped,

and turned for contemplation.

His pale face emerges,

twisted with rage,

the pale, blue eyes pushed wide

with his fury,

as he shouts,

“I would do anything

 to care for your boy!

But you, you, for you

 I would do nothing.

You could die!”

My old friend,

I look him in his eyes,

and twist him around

to savor him,

forgive me, forgive me, forgive me,

the shame is still real,

but not as powerful

as the love.

And then there it is,

the whole beautiful landscape

of where we once walked

through the thousands of acres

of grass—

your beautiful half-curved smile

that begs to be kissed,

it bastes the eyes

even now

in wonderful liquid joy—

But where did you come from,

little blonde wiggler,

my son—yes I remember

when you giggled in my lap

as we read your book,

“Carlson On The Roof,”

I believe—

The report, the report,

I have it all outlined,

down to structure and words--

what a disciplined place

this can be—

decades of experience

focused on this moment--

wonder how many megabytes

it is here,

must get it done,

must get it done,

the order given,

pull up to the machine,

close all other drawers,

even the facetious drum roll

and playing of the “Washington Post March”

that I called up.

Every curtain opened

another memory,

every scene observed,

more the choices made,

complexity upon complexity

were the hours

of thorough training.

All so curious,

and I’ve learned

to call it me.

Yes, there are many folds

in the four corners

of the mind.

A puzzline poem but very interesting and takes time to absorb it.
You are so sincere in your thoughts, and I enjoy your writes.

"...decades of experience
focused on this moment--"

I read this when it was first posted and it reeled inside my mind so erratically that I couldn't wrap my thoughts around it. It feels somehow like pain, like a throb that rears up to dim a twinkling eye or slow the breath in full retreat of memories cut deep in the skin of time and place. And somehow, there is a light that tries to shine through - a warmth that burns of its own longing to stake its place. This is straight-from-the-core writing, Jerry - superb.

So many brilliant facets in this gem. I have to confess that I don't always understand what is going on, but the sight of "the little
blond wiggler" and that beyond-wonderful "report" stanza more than
make up. SO much going on. Feeling! Memories dash back
and forth in time, covering and uncovering, changing sequences and
backdrops. Only increases their power.

Brings tears to my eyes, Jerry. Half sad, half happy because I am in the presence of a sensitive, intelligent, and caring soul. . .with
talent and wit to spare!

Thank you, my friend.

Thank you.

Jerry, the feeling and thought process that you've used in this are wonderful.

I find it amazing how much our minds hold in memory... and not only that, but the emotions that each minute memory can also recall. I detected many emotions within your poem, but the one that stuck out in my mind the most was the sadness tinged joy of watching children grow up...the remorse I believe all parents live with... wishing they could have someone done more... but then... maybe that is just because my mind is stuck in that rut right now with my three oldest gone away to college. Life at home is feeling pretty empty right now with only 9 children at home! hee, hee...

P.S. So glad to see you writing and posting again! You are sorely missed when you are away.

Random thoughts stitched into fine verses, like chaos regulated.

Some complicated thought processing in this poem--The workings of the mind are very personal and like dreams that seem somehow foreign to our natures, our thoughts are real experiences that have to be processed.

Quite Creative Jerry! It took me a moment to get it, but when I did, it was all clear. Our minds can be so amazing!

As I read I felt a pulse throb in each line and in me, here is a poem about to explode with feelings and yet with your skill you hold it together and that makes it more intense and relevant. It's a genuine pleasure to read this and I hope we see more from you very soon.

Such a treat to read your work again, Jerry. Been quite a while. I love this, love the imagery and the energy behind each word. I'm not sure I entirely get it, but I really, really like it :)

I love the imagery, the symbolism and the alliteration here, Jerry. This is a most meaningful and compelling piece that draws in the reader. Thank you. Love and peace to you,
