Darkness descends and turns
the mind to furtive thoughts
and shivery fingers seem to
scale the spine

Strange sounds cause unease
when they can't be detected
stealth  whispers flood the
imagination

When loves sweet aura is gone
the heart is a lonely hunter, and
the bedroom an empty space
for dreams

To conjure up all sorts of ghosts
past present and future, that
parade through your haven of
unrest

Until he is back with you  again
and loves permeation  spreads its
heady essence throughout the room
to overcome all unwanted hauntings

Oh wow! This is a wonderful write...a bit mystical. Love is great, and the wait for that special someone to return is sometimes more than enough to conjure up the ghosts of old memories.
Great write...enjoyed it much.

New place, new "creaks", huh Eileen? :o) As a widow, I've learned to live with the darkness of night; it has become my time of peaceful solitude...or for reading a good book. Cheers, my friend...this too will pass.

A great poem to make us think -- very nice job, Eileen. Why is it that love causes us to feel such extremes? Radiant joy or deepest dispair ...
