The magic of What If? This is the original poem that gave birth to the short story of the same name.

The Original Painted Lady
(The poem)

It was just a painting on the wall
A lady~nothing special at all
But she seemed to become real
Bidding him before her to kneel
He found himself down on one knee
And found he could not stay away
Returning to the painting day after day
She began to haunt his nights
Each morning, he looked a fright
The lady consumed his very life
He forgot about his kids and wife
In his dreams he danced with her
Wild and free was his new lover
Stay with me forever she cried
He stepped into the painting and he died
Died to his friends and family
But still dances with the Painted Lady

This poem was the basis for the short story that I posted earlier. As with a lot of my work, it seems to take on a life of its own. Therefore it sort of evolved into the short story. Some of my friends asked me to post the poem so here it is. Enjoy!
